DIY Natural // Aloe and Avocado Hair Mask
22:46My mum grows aloe plants in our gardern and every now and again I pluck a stem off for my hair use. So far, I've made a leave-in conditioner with fresh aloe gel (more on that later) but today I decided to use some for my DIY DC mix.
BENEFITS OF ALOE VERA
- Aloe vera is a very good humectant, therefore it acts to trap as much moisture for our strands.
- This particular DC mix is safe to apply to the scalp as well because aloe vera helps unclog follicles and allows growth promoting nutrients to be absorbed.
- Aloe vera is also a great anti-dandruff treatment over time.
I combined the fresh aloe gel with a half an avocado and one medium sized banana. I blended the ingredients using my NutriBlast. The mixture came out to be a smooth, creamy consistency so there was no need to add any water. The liquid from the aloe vera gel was enough.
After washing and detangling my hair, I slathered the creamy mixture onto my strands. I let my strands soak up the nutritious mixture under a plastic bag, a scarf and a shower cap on top. I don't have a heating cap (yet) so this method helps me trap heat in my hair, whenever I do a deep conditioning treatment.

The results from this DIY mix were unexpected and I was very impressed about how moisturised and strong my hair felt. My coils and curls felt very healthy! I hope you give this a try and share your experience if you do!

Notes:
- If you don't have fresh aloe near by or you don't want to harvest any, you can also use 1/2 a cup of fresh aloe gel from your local healthfoods store and the moisture levels will be just as great :)
- Fresh aloe vera has a short lifespan so it is advisable that you use the DIY mix immediately or store it in the fridge for no longer than 3 days.
